The ladies of The Real Housewives of Atlanta had more than a few surprises in store for viewers as the show entered its fifth season on Sunday night. Perhaps the biggest news is that Kim is pregnant again! Realizing she couldn’t do it alone, Kim caved and hired back her former assistant Sweetie, which is sure to create drama down the road.

And while she and her husband Kroy are excited to welcome their new addition, they may soon be homeless due to a disagreement with their landlords. The battle resulted in part because the couple had hoped to buy the home, but Kim says an appraisal valued it at far less than the listing price and an inspection revealed a number of issues.
In spite of her own woes, Kim put on a good front when she visited Kandi at her new home—although she couldn’t help but point out that the house (which was in foreclosure when Kandi bought it) is in a bad neighborhood. Taken aback, Kandi quickly retorted that the Mayor lived by.
Aside from her new home, Kandi also has a new man named Todd on Real Housewives of Atlanta. He works in television production, and they met while Kandi was visiting Africa last year. The couple has been together 10 months now, and Kandi announced that Todd will be moving in with her. They also have plans to get married and have children. They are hoping for a son since they each have a daughter already, and they want to name him Cash. What a great way to let the public know where your priorities lie!
Speaking of priorities, NeNe made it clear her focus in life is largely on her ex-husband Greg, and the two are considering reconciling. She also visited Beverly Hills to meet with Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee and The New Normal. NeNe stars on The New Normal, and the two discussed who should play her brother.
Phaedra also has a new endeavor, although not quite as exciting. Currently, she is in school studying mortuary science. Yup, dead people! It is her ambition to become the “Vera Wang of funerals,” and by that she means opening up a practice that isn’t limited to people, but one that also includes pets. Enough said.
Cynthia didn’t seem to have much cooking either. Her big Real Housewives of Atlanta premiere scene was centered on her modeling agency running a casting call to help Jet magazine find their Beauty of the Week. However, the event allowed for viewers to get to know the show’s newest housewife Kenya Moore, who helped with the selection process.
Kenya recently returned to Atlanta after living in Los Angeles for 18 years because she wanted to get in touch with her roots and focus more on her personal life. Her claim to fame is that in 1993, she was the second black woman to be crowned Miss USA. She is also an actor, model, producer, author, and a director—oh and a hustler, or so she claims. As someone who likes to win, Kenya warns others that she is a tough girl and that became more than apparent when she engaged in a verbal altercation with one of Cynthia’s employees during the casting call.
However, Real Housewives of Atlanta premiere viewers did get to see a softer side to Kenya when she talked about how her aunt raised her because her mother denied that she ever had a child. She also hopes to eventually get married and have children. Whether or not that will be with her boyfriend Walter remains to be seen, especially since the only part of the preview of the next episode that’s worth reporting on is that Walter admits he previously asked Kandi out. I smell a catfight coming on!
